The 49ers are making a "huge push" for free-agent cornerback Eric Wright, a source told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday, and the San Francisco native is expected to make a decision within the next 12 hours.Wright, 26, started all 16 games at right cornerback for the Detroit Lions last season. He is a five-year veteran who played his first four NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns.Wright (5-10, 190) was the Lions' third-leading tackler with 73 stops on the season. He recorded four interceptions and broke up a team-leading 16 passes. Wright has 13 interceptions in five seasons.
Wright is no relation to the former 49ers cornerback of the same name. The 49ers are also interested in Kansas City free-agent cornerback Brandon Carr, ESPN reported. The 49ers appear to be moving on from Carlos Rogers, an unrestricted free agent who earned a trip to the Pro Bowl last season with six interceptions.
Carr, a four-year veteran, recorded four interceptions and 13 passes defensed for the Chiefs last season. The Dallas Cowboys reportedly lined up the first visit with Carr and are considered the favorite to sign him.
Earlier Tuesday, the 49ers signed Perrish Cox to a two-year, minimum contract. Cox did not play in the NFL last season.
