SANTA CLARA – The 49ers waived guard Jordan Devey, who was acquired in a preseason trade with the New England Patriots and started nine games last season, sources confirmed to CSNBayArea.com on Friday.

The 49ers released Devey to create room on their 90-man roster for a rookie class that includes three draft picks along the offensive line: Stanford’s Joshua Garnett, Georgia’s John Theus and Fahn Cooper of Ole Miss.

Theus and Cooper are capable of playing both tackle and guard positions, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said after selecting them back-to-back in the fifth round. The 49ers also reportedly will add Baylor guard Blake Muir as an undrafted free agent.

Devey came to the 49ers in a trade for tight end Asante Cleveland on Aug. 18. He was named the surprise starter at right guard for the 49ers' season opener. He started the first nine game of the season before Andrew Tiller replaced him in the lineup.

Kicker Corey Acosta, a first-year player from Southern Mississippi, revealed on Twitter that he was also waived. Acosta spent last training camp with the 49ers. He made all four of his field-goal attempts.

“Well it was a fun ride, but looks like my future is elsewhere,” Acosta wrote. “Thanks @49ers for the opportunities and I look forward to wherever is next.”

The 49ers reportedly agreed to terms with John Lunsford, a strong-legged kicker from Liberty who was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. Lunsford finished with 12 field goals of 50 yards or more during his four-year college career, including a 60-yarder. He made just eight of 23 attempts from 40 to 49 yards.

The 49ers are expected to announce four roster moves to open spots on the team's 90-man roster to correspond with the signings of the team’s undrafted rookies.
