SANTA CLARA – Pro Bowl offensive linemen Mike Iupati and Joe Staley did not participate in practice Wednesday, as both spent the opening of 49ers practice on a cross-training stationary machine in the 49ers’ weight room.

Neither player is expected to be available for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, but coach Jim Harbaugh did not rule out either player from seeing action. The 49ers are likely to list Iupati and Staley as “questionable” on the official status report, which must be announced on Friday.

If Staley and Iupati are not available, the 49ers will start only two offensive linemen in their usual starting spots: center Jonathan Goodwin and right tackle Anthony Davis. Alex Boone would shift from guard to left tackle, with Adam Snyder and Joe Looney taking over at the guard spots.

Tight end Vance McDonald, who missed some action Sunday against the St. Louis Rams due to an ankle injury, did not practice. But third tight end Garrett Celek, who has been out since Nov. 10 with a hamstring strain, returned to practice.

Rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton participated fully in practice Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a fractured right foot on Sept. 26. Wide receiver Mario Manningham, who saw just 16 snaps of action against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday with the return of Michael Crabtree, saw limited work due to his knee condition.

Running back Frank Gore saw limited work in practice with an ankle condition that limited him a week ago, too.

Seattle wide receivers Percy Harvin and Golden Tate did not practice due to hip injuries. Harvin has played in just one game this season.
