Back in early December, Joe Montana appeared on 95.7 The Game's "Wheelhouse" show and said Colin Kaepernick needs to improve his play in the pocket.
“I think that’s the biggest transition for him,” Montana said. “The worst part about it is everyone is talking to him about it. So it’s not like he can relax and let it go and not think about it because everyone brings it up to him every day ...
“He’s trying to transition from an offense that relies on him running the ball to one that tries to keeps him in the pocket,” Montana said. “He’s definitely talented enough to do it and has the ability, it’s just getting used to doing it.”
Speaking on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" show Thursday morning in New York, Kaepernick declared, "I think pocket passing is something is something that’s overlooked as far as what I do. I think people see me running around and they see me throwing on the run. They see me running down field and that’s just what he does.
“When you step up in the pocket and make a normal throw, it gets overlooked because you’re not running around. To me, it’s something, yes, you want to get better at that. I want to get better at throwing on the run, going through progressions quicker, I want to get better at everything. But I don’t think that (pocket passing) specifically is being addressed.”
On Thursday night's Yahoo! SportsTalk Live Jim Kozimor asked Dan Dibley, "Alright, so there are a couple of things he (Kaepernick) wants to work on. Does he got it in the right perspective or does he need to be a better pocket passer?"
Dibley: "He does need to be a better pocket passer, and he needs to be a better passer outside the pocket. They were 31st in the NFL in passing yardage and I know a lot of that is by design ... but bottom line is in the pocket he hasn't yet figured it out ... I think he's glossing over his deficiencies a little bit and with a full year left on his contract I don't understand the urgency to lock the guy up when he has these things he still needs to work on."
