Linebacker Michael Wilhoite, who could be in line to open the regular season as a 49ers starter, signed his one-year tender as an exclusive rights free agent on Monday.
Wilhoite is scheduled to earn $570,000 this season.
Wilhoite started two games last season in place of Patrick Willis, who was sidelined with a groin strain. He recorded 11 tackles, including three for losses, in the 49ers’ 34-3 victory over the Houston Texans on Oct. 6.
Wilhoite could be in the starting lineup to open the season as All-Pro inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman continues his rehabilitation from knee surgery. The 49ers expect Bowman to open the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list, which would make him ineligible for the first six weeks of the season.
