YSTL: Will 49ers extend Kaepernick before '14 season begins?
Programming note: Watch Yahoo SportsTalk Live Wednesday night at 8:30 and 11:00 on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
The 49ers and Colin Kaepernick’s representation sat in the middle of a popular Indianapolis restaurant last Friday night during the NFL Scouting Combine, presumably opening negotiations on a contract extension.
On Tuesday night's edition of Yahoo SportsTalk Live, Jim Kozimor and a panel of Matt Maiocco, Tim Kawakami and Mark Kreidler played "Agree or Disagree: 49ers will extend Kaepernick before the season."
Maiocco: "I believe yes. And part of the reason is because that salary cap just keeps going up. The 49ers have some money to spend ... the 49ers have plenty of space to do something long-term with Kaepernick. I think they take care of him and they make it quite clear that he's their quarterback of the future."
Kawakami: "I think it's 50-50 ... I've talked to somebody recently that said they had a good initial meeting and there were no barriers ... It's a way higher number than I thought it was gonna be. It's gonna be like 16, 17, 18 million dollars ... but I think both sides are kind of moving to that point."
Kreidler: "I'll make it unanimous ... I really believe that it's the way to go ... They lock him up and they move on to their other business."
Do you agree? How much money would you be willing to give Kaepernick?
