In a career that’s spanned more than a decade, Urijah Faber has been considered the crowd favorite more times than not. When Faber takes to the octagon Saturday night before his hometown crowd in Sacramento, he’ll be squaring off against a foe familiar to many in Northern California.
Faber meets Modesto native Michael McDonald in a showdown of bantamweight contenders. Both are considered two of the Top 5 bantamweights in the world, each with the pedigree to back it up. McDonald is 5-1 in the UFC and Faber is on one of the most dominant winning streaks of his career.
This is more than just a matchup of two top-level bantamweights or two of Northern California’s best. This is a battle of one of the all-time great bantamweights against one of the fastest rising stars of the UFC.
With a possible title shot at stake, Faber is fully aware of McDonald’s capabilities and talents. He’s also prepared for a fast start.
Both fighters are known for their explosiveness and ability to finish. Faber has seen 23 of his 29 career wins come by either submissions or knockout. McDonald has won 14 of his 16 fights by finishes as well. That’s a combined 37 finishes between these two.
Fans are more than ready for an explosive battle between two of Northern California’s best and the two are more than willing to give the fans what they deserve. This has the possibility of being Fight of the Night and, with the hometown crowd behind them, they have all the encouragement to pull it off.
