SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 28, 2013) – Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, the home of “Authentic Bay Area Sports” and the official cable television home of the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers, is set to kick off the 2013 NFL season with season-long coverage that includes the region’s most comprehensive 49ers news and analysis, daily insider reports and in-depth interviews with players, coaches and front office personnel.
Bolstering the network’s extensive 49ers coverage is the addition of former 49ers defensive tackle, 1997 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl Champion Dana Stubblefield and former NFL and Stanford head coach Dennis Green to 49ers Postgame Live,“The Official Postgame Show of the 49ers.” Stubblefield and Green join the 49ers broadcast team of Comcast SportsNet’s award-winning anchor/reporter Dave Feldman (@FeldyCSN) and former 49ers defensive end and Super Bowl XXIX champion Dennis Brown, along with Comcast SportsNet’s 49ers reporter Mindi Bach (@MBachCSN) and CSNBayArea.com’s 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) reporting from the stadium. Stubblefield will join the network’s 49ers broadcast team for home games while Green will provide his expert analysis for road games. Plus, 49ers two-time All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman (@NBowman53) will make weekly appearances on Comcast SportsNet’s 49ers Central and Yahoo! SportsTalk Live as well as make contributions to CSNBayArea.com.
“As we enter the Farewell Season of the ‘Stick and reflect on all the great players and coaches who were such a vital part of the success of our franchise, how fitting it is to add Dennis Green and Dana Stubblefield to the strong foundation built by Dave Feldman’s knowledge of this market and our fan base,” said Bob Sargent, Director of Broadcasting & Corporate Sales, San Francisco 49ers. “Their deep connection to the roots of this team and unique personalities will provide our fans the top notch coverage they deserve and expect from the Official Post Game Show of the 49ers.”
“We are tremendously excited with the addition of Dana, Dennis and NaVorro to our team of NFL analysts,” said Ted Griggs, President, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and Comcast SportsNet California. “They are among the most respected names in the game, represent celebrated generations of 49ers football and will bring unique and insightful perspectives to our in-depth coverage over the course of the 2013 NFL season.”
Stubblefield, a first-round selection (26th overall pick) by the 49ers in 1993, played 11 seasons in the NFL (49ers, 1993-1997; Washington Redskins, 1998-2000; 49ers, 2001-2002; Oakland Raiders, 2003). In his rookie season, he recorded 10.5 sacks for the 49ers, earning himself the 1993 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year recognition. A three-time Pro Bowl selection (1994, 1995 and 1997) and two-time All-Pro selection (First Team selection in 1997 and Second Team selection in 1995), Stubblefield also went on to win the 1997 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award and become Super Bowl XXIX Champion with the 49ers.
Green won 117 games as a head coach with the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals and began his coaching career in 1973. A product of the prolific Bill Walsh coaching tree during his time as a coach with the Stanford Cardinal and 49ers, he has also served as a coach at Dayton (1973), Iowa (1974-1976) and Northwestern (1981-1985). In 1992, Green became only the second African American head coach in NFL history (after Art Shell) when he was selected for the position with the Vikings. His best season as a NFL head coach came during the Vikings’ 15-1 season and NFC Championship Game appearance in 1998. Green last served as a head coach for the California Redwoods/Sacramento Mountain Lions in the United Football League from 2009-2011.
Bowman, a third-round selection (91st overall pick) by the 49ers in 2010, played college football for Penn State University. A two-time first-team All-Pro inside linebacker over the past two seasons, he led the 49ers in tackles in 2011 and 2012 and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2012. In last season’s playoffs, his biggest contribution came in the 49ers’ NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons, where he sealed the team’s victory by deflecting Matt Ryan’s fourth-down pass attempt in the red zone, giving San Francisco their first trip to the Super Bowl since 1995. Bowman and Patrick Willis make up one of the best linebacker duos in the NFL today.
