Comcast SportsNet, Provident Credit Union announce winner of '2014 All-Star Teacher Award'

Each All-Star Teacher Award Runner-Up to Receive $2,000 for His/Her School

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 25, 2014) – Comcast SportsNet (@CSNAuthentic), the home of “Authentic Bay Area Sports,” today announced that Nicole Ellwood of Twin Hills Charter Middle School in Sebastopol, Calif. is the winner of the 2014 All-Star Teacher Award, presented by Provident Credit Union, and has been presented a $20,000 check for her school. In addition, each All-Star Teacher Award runner-up will receive $2,000 for his/her school.

In its eighth year, the All-Star Teacher Award recognizes middle and high school teachers in Northern and Central California and Nevada for their extraordinary dedication to their students and significant presence within their respective communities. An esteemed panel of community leaders selected five finalists based on four categories: Overall Commitment, Excellence in Teaching, Rapport with Students, and Level of Distinction. This year’s five finalists were Rick Charvet of Mt. Madonna Continuation High School (Gilroy); Sarah Coyle of Roosevelt School (Redwood City); Nicole Ellwood of Twin Hills Charter Middle School (Sebastopol); Jessica Lura of Bullis Charter School (Los Altos); and Alyssa Neilson of Half Moon Bay High School (Half Moon Bay).

Heidi Parks, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Provident Credit Union, stated, “Provident Credit Union is honored to be part of such an important program that supports educators in our local community. Helping teachers and schools that educate future generations is what Provident has been known for since our founding in 1950 and we continue that tradition today.”

All-Star Teacher nomination forms were mailed to over 200 Northern and Central California schools, available at all Provident Credit Union branch locations and online at and Many teachers were nominated by peers, students, parents and principals and the finalists were chosen by panel of judges consisting of Doug Bartlett, Marketing Principal, BART; Benito Delgado-Olson, Executive Director, K to College; John Haggarty, VP Marketing of Provident Credit Union; Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Investment, Comcast California; Detra Paige, Director of Community Relations, Oakland Athletics; and Sue Petersen, Executive Director of the Giants Community Fund.
