CHICAGO (APCSN) Right-hander ToddWellemeyer, who broke in with the Chicago Cubs in 2003, has agreed to aminor league contract with the team.The deal, first reported by ESPN.com,would be worth 800,000 if Wellemeyer is added to the Cubs' 40-manroster. He will go to spring training next month in Mesa, Ariz.Wellemeyer was 3-5 with a 5.68 ERAlast season with the Giants when he made 11 starts. He has appeared in208 major league games and has a 32-34 record with a 4.83 ERA. The32-year-old-right-hander has made 75 career starts and also pitchedwith the Marlins, Royals and Cardinals.
Wellemeyer was injured in his June 10 start in Cincinnati, opening up the door for top prospect Madison Bumgarner to join the Giants' rotation, which led the team to its first World Series title since moving to San Francisco in 1958.RELATED: The World Series page
