Free agent Scott Nichol has signed with the Blues, the team announced Tuesday.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the deal is a one-year, 600,000 contract with a potential 100,000 in bonuses.

The 36-year-old Nichol spent two seasons with the Sharks, dressing in 56 games last year and picking up four goals and three assists. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound center is an 11-year NHL veteran with 52 career goals and 66 assists.

Sharks GM Doug Wilson notified Nichol in June that the team would not seek to retain him. Nichol became a restricted free agent on July 1.

"Scotty, he epitomizes everything about this game," Wilson said at the time. "Paid his dues in the minors. He works hard, he's a professional. We have a lot of depth down the middle. I wanted to tell him up front that we were going in a different direction.

"We've got (Andrew) Desjardins, who came in and played in the playoffs, is a very similar type player, who paid his dues. I've already called a couple teams on (Nichol's) behalf."

In his San Jose career, Nichol appeared in 135 games with eight goals, 18 assists and 26 points.
