Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum reached the 1,000-strikeout milestone Monday night, becoming just the eighth pitcher since 1900 to reach the lofty plateau in just five seasons.

He notched K No, 1,000 in the second inning against Jerry Hairston Jr. of the Nationals. Lincecum got the count to 1-2, then narrowly missed a called third strike.

He fanned Hairston to end the third and launch a standing ovation.

Lincecum, 26, opened his start against Washington by striking out the side in the first inning. He came into the game with 995 strikeouts.

Lincecum got ahead of Pudge Rodriguez 0-2 in the second inning, bring the AT&T crowd to its feet in recognition that he was just one K away, but the veteran catcher grounded out to third.

Lincecum has 29 career games with 10 or more strikeouts and won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2008 and 2009.
