Giants catcher Buster Posey is scheduled to have surgery on Friday to remove the screws in his surgically repaired left ankle, according to a published report.
"I've been anxious about it for three or four weeks now," Posey told the San Jose Mercury News. "Once that happens, we'll be able to do more and make more progress."
The plan is for Posey to take a few days off after the operation to recover, then resume his rehab work.
Posey, 24, still has not put weight on his ankle since suffering the injury on May 25.
He was cleared to begin light workouts on July 8, but despite stationary bicycling and core work, Posey has lost 5-10 pounds since the injury.

"I don't think it could've gone any better than it's gone so far," he said, crediting the Giants' training staff and physical therapist Dave Matoso. "I don't have any doubt with all the work I'm putting in, and all the work the trainers are putting in, I'll be back to where I was before the injury -- if not better."
