Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, sidelined by a broken hamate bone in his right wrist, posted on Twitter Monday that his doctor told him to plan on seven weeks recovery time.
His tweet, from the Twitter account @pandoval48, was published shortly before noon on Monday.
"My doctor tell me I be back in 7 weeks."
Earlier in the day he had posted a more optimistic timetable, when he responded to a question from another Twitter user by posting, "I gonna be back in 4 weeks."
Sandoval injured the hand on Friday night and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday. His recovery will likely keep him out until early June. The surgery will remove the bone, which is in the part of the hand that rests on the knob of the bat
Sandoval was leading the Giants in batting average (.313), on-base percentage (.374) and slugging percentage (.530).
