That’s how many major championships Tiger Woods has played since he last hoisted Grand Slam glory, which is significant only because some observers believed it was Woods’ real magic number.
It was Jack Nicklaus’ 18 major championship victories that Woods had tacked to the wall of his childhood home in Cypress, Calif., but as the years went by and the majors piled up it was the rubber match that drove him to greatness.
Getting to 18, matching Nicklaus, was always the headline, but as the former world No. 1 has said in the past, second sucks.
