Giants outfielder Andres Torres has been placed on the disabled list with an Achilles tendon strain, according to Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly. Baggarly also reports that outfielder Darren Ford has been called up from AAA-Fresno to take Torres' place on the 25-man roster.Torres, who was hitting .286 in 28 at bats before his injury, is eligible to return to the Giants on April 26 against the Pirates.Ford was called up on Sept. 1 last season and immediately contributed, as his speed led to a Giants win over the Rockies later that night. He has yet to have an at bat in the major leagues and joins the Giants after hitting .323 and stealing seven bases for the Grizzlies.
