World Series MVP Edgar Renteria told ESPNDeportes.com that he would rather spend more time with his family than accept the one-year, 1 million offer from the Giants.

Renteria, who hit .412 in the World Series with two home runs and six RBIs, had his 9.5 million option declined by the club. The 34-year-old shortstop appeared in just 72 regular-season games and was placed on the disabled list three times.

"That offer from the Giants was a lack of respect. A total disrespect," Renteria told the Spanish-language Web site from his home in Colombia. "To play for a million dollars, I'd rather stay with my private business and share more time with my family."

Renteria, a five-time All-Star, indicated he'd received at least one other offer but it was not enough to entice him to continue playing.
