What a weekend full of great high school basketball! This past Saturday, Cal Hi Sports Bay Area was out all day covering the best of the best in the CIF Regional Championships. I was on the sidelines at American Canyon High School for the girls the Division Four and Three finals between Salesian vs Piedmont and  Sacred Heart Cathedral vs Saint Ignatius.

It was a huge accomplishment for all four teams to get to this point. Both games displayed some of the best talent in Northern California and fans packed the stands to watch. In the first matchup between the Division Four finalists the Pride came out on fire and built a pretty substantial 27-12 lead at the half. By the fourth period, Salesian held onto an 18 point lead, but Piedmont showed some unbelievable heart and outscored their opponents in 23-15 -- trimming the lead down to 10 points. In the end the Pride claimed the crown with a 53-43 final score. On Saturday, they will play Serra from Gardena, CA for the ultimate title: State Champions.

In the second matchup between the Division Three finalists, the Wildcats were the first to strike and had an early 6-2 lead. That would be the only time they would have the lead as the Irish took control for the rest of the game and posted an impressive 46-28 final tally. . SHC, like Salesian, still have more hardware on their mind, but standing in their way are the Warriors of Alemany. The two squads will meet on Friday in the Championship game.

What a fun weekend to be a part of! Although it marked the end of the season for Saint Ignatius and Piedmont, they have so much to be proud of! As for Salesian and Sacred Heart Cathedral... Good luck!
