Spring sports are here and while hoop fans can enjoy the California High School Basketball Championships, most schools have moved on to sports played outdoors.
Baseball will have the usually crowd contending on the diamond. The West Catholic Athletic League has a huge amount of talent with several legitimate contenders for the league title.
One of those contenders is Serra. I shot the Padres against San Ramon Valley this week and got a good preview of what this Serra team is all about.
The Padres lead off hitter Jordan Paroubeck took the first pitch he saw in against the Wolves and sent a bomb over the fence in right for a lead-off home run. Paroubeck later doubled and singled as part of a 3-for-3 game with two RBI for the switch-hitter. In the seventh inning, with San Ramon Valley trying to come back, Paroubeck made a sparkling diving catch in center field. He's committed to Fresno State next year, but the MLB scouts looking at Paroubeck during this game might have other ideas.
We've heard Jordan worked out this past summer with Serra alum Barry Bonds. So far this season he is 9-for-13 at the plate with a .692 average, with four of those hits being a pair of doubles and two home runs. He’s just one of the impressive players to watch as the season rolls along.
