Super-scorer Oliver leads SJSU past Montana State

SAN JOSE (AP) -- Adrian Oliver scored 35 points and had 10 rebounds and San Jose State survived a spirited-comeback attempt to beat Montana State 77-73 Tuesday night.

Oliver, the nation's third-leading scorer, recorded his second straight 30-point game and fifth of the season to help the Spartans (12-12) snap a two-game losing streak. Oliver matched his second-best scoring night of the season and was 11 of 21 from the field.

Will Carter added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Keith Shamburger had 11 points.

Erik Rush scored 20 points to lead the Bobcats (11-15), who lost their eighth straight after winning 11 of their first 18. Rod Singleton and Tre Johnson each added 15 points for Montana State, and Shawn Reid scored 11.

San Jose State built a 24-point advantage in the first half and led 46-25 at halftime before Montana State got as close as two late in the second half.

Singleton made 1-of-2 free throws to bring the Bobcats within 67-65 with 2:36 remaining to play.

Justin Graham then made consecutive baskets for San Jose State, and Oliver went 4 for 4 from the foul line over the final 2 minutes, allowing the Spartans to improve to 4-0 at home against the Bobcats.
