Dont cry for or about Bruce Bochy because he wasntnamed the National Leagues Manager of the Year. For one thing, the voters got this one right, too -- just asthey did in naming Buster Posey the top rookie. Not only did San Diegos Bud Black do more with lessthan Bochy, guiding the seriously hamstrung Padres to the brink of what wouldhave been the most unexpected division title in recent memory, but CincysDusty Baker, who finished second to Black by a mere vote, did more with lessthan Bochy as well.Thats certainly not a knock on Bochy. He did amasterful job from start to finish. But he had the best rotation in baseball, one of the top three closers and the top rookie. His cupboard was far less barethan the men who finished ahead of him.If the award werent strictly based on the regularseason, mind you, Bochy wins the thing going away. He was a god in October andearly November. But heres guessing hes just fine withfinishing third on this one. He finished first where it counts most.
