SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- After a 4 a.m. wake-up call in Livermore, I arrived at Scottsdale Stadium by 10 a.m. and quickly discovered the one score that really matters here: two broken bones. On Tuesday, a camper broke his clavicle diving for a ball and already today, someone's broken an ankle. This, I guess, is what happens when old men decide to act like young men.

Bill Laskey, the camp director, got me fully suited with the uniform I described yesterday and everything is first-class. Intentional or not, Laskey made a smart move in leaving the price tag on everything that he hands out, reminding campers that this is indeed Big League Ball and they're absolutely getting their money's worth.

When I got to the stadium, one of the teams of Giants campers was administering a thorough beating on a team from the Cubs' camp. The Cubs apparently only use pitching machines at their camp, so they have something of an issue with drawing strikes once they put one of their human beings on the mound. The Giants team put a 6 on the scoreboard in each of the 5 innings, so clearly they need a kicker for extra points. That's all I have time for now, I'm pitching in the 2 p.m. game here and my manager Chili Davis has a very strict "computers in the dugout" policy. I'll check in with you later.
