Warriors officially sign F Al Thornton

OAKLANDThe Golden State Warriors have signed free agent forward Al Thornton, the team announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not released. Thornton, who was released by the Washington Wizards earlier this week, is expected to join the team prior to Fridays game in Boston.

Thornton, 27, appeared in 49 games this season with the Wizards, averaging 8.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 21.8 minutes. The 68 forward scored a season-high 24 points October 30 at Atlanta, one of four (4) 20-plus point outings this season. Additionally, he tallied double figures in pointson 17 occasions with the Wizards, including six (6) consecutive games December 14-26.
Originally selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft (14th overall), Thornton was named a member of the NBAs All-Rookie First Team following the 2007-08 campaign, when he averaged 12.7 points (second among all rookies) and 4.5 rebounds in 79 games (31 starts). He scored a career-high 39 pointsequaling then the most-ever for a Clippers rookieagainst Memphis on March 29, 2008.
REPORT: Warriors expected to sign Al ThorntonA three-year NBA veteran, Thornton enjoyed his most productive NBA campaign in 2008-09, when he averaged career-high figures in scoring (16.8) and rebounds (5.2).
