A's outfielder Josh Willingham was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount Monday for what Major League Baseball termed "inappropriate conduct" -- including making contact with umpire Bill Miller, in the top of the eighth inning Oakland's game Saturday against Kansas City.

Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards and On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Willingham had been scheduled to serve the suspension Monday tonight against the Texas Rangers, but he has elected to appeal.

His suspension will not be enforced until the process is complete.
