A's catcher Kurt Suzuki was placed on the paternity leave list on Wednesday. He will not be with the team for Wednesday's series finale in Anaheim.

Suzuki can remain on the list for up to three days. He and his wife Renee are expecting a baby girl, their first child.

Catcher Josh Donaldson was recalled from Triple A Sacramento to take Suzuki's spot on the roster.

Suzuki is batting .243 with a home run and three RBI in 21 games this season. Last year he missed 19 games while on the disabled list and three while on the bereavement list.

Donaldson is batting .158 with one home run, six RBI and eight runs scored in 15 games in Sacramento. He hit .156 in 14 games with the As in 2010.
