Yoenis Cespedes was introduced for the first time officially as an Athletic at 9:45 this morning in Phoenix.
He was joined at a table with general manager Billy Beane, his interpreter Juan Navarrete and agent Adam Katz.
The press conference started with a photo-op as Beane helped him put on his new uniform -- No. 52 (I was told he wore No. 51 in Cuba, but as we all know that belongs to Mr. Perfecto around Oakland -- Dallas Braden).
Cespedes opened by saying, "Very happy to be here ... I am very close to my dream to play in the big leagues."
He hopes to see game action in as soon as five to six days, and feels most comfortable in center field, but will play wherever the team needs him. He just wants to play.
Beane echoed those same thoughts, stating that manager Bob Melvin will put the best player in center.
He also proclaimed that, "guys like this Cespedes don't come along too often."
The A's will take it day-by-day to get Cespedes ready, and the staff is treating this like his first day reporting to camp.
