The A's acquired Orioles closer Jim Johnson in exchange for Jemile Weeks and a player to be named later, the club announced Monday night.

He is estimated to make more than $10 million this year, his third of salary arbitration. That's the cost for a closer who led the AL with 50 saves last season and leads the majors with 101 over the past two years.

It's not surprising that the A's would target a closer as they were going to lose Grant Balfour in free agency. But they usually don't pay big free agency bucks for the position.

The A's made waves earlier in the day with news that they've agreed to a two-year $22 million contract with starting pitcher Scott Kazmir
