First baseman Daric Barton cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

He was designated for assignment Thursday after the A's acquired first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks from the San Diego Padres.

Barton had the option to decline a minor league assignment but stuck with the organization he's been with since December 2004, when the A's acquired him from St. Louis as part of a package for Mark Mulder.

On more than one occasion, it's appeared Barton's tenure with the A's might be done. He was designated for assignment twice last season but remained with the organization and eventually got called back up to Oakland and contributed down the stretch.

This will mark the eighth different season that Barton, 28, will have spent time on Sacramento's roster.
