OAKLAND – Kyle Blanks is finally playing his first home game with the A’s on Monday, and the first baseman looks forward to growing some roots in one place.

The A’s acquired Blanks from San Diego just as Oakland was beginning a nine-game three-city road trip in Cleveland. But going back further, to the start of the season, Blanks has been constantly living out of a suitcase.

He spent a bulk of time with the Padres’ Triple-A El Paso squad before his trade, and El Paso’s home stadium was under construction, so the Chihuahuas were on one long road trip. Just as they were finally going to get a homestand, Blanks was called up by the Padres and lived in a hotel even when the team was home.

“It’s nice to try and finally settle in and have somewhere to leave my stuff and kind of take a deep breath,” Blanks said before Monday’s series opener against Detroit. “In El Paso, we were on the road for 25 days and then came home. Then I went up to San Diego, so I’ve been everywhere. I’m just trying to decompress and take a deep breath.”

Blanks is just 2 for 11 with the A’s so far with four strikeouts, and he’s grounded into two double plays. He did make a nice diving stop at first base yesterday in a loss to Toronto. He’s in the lineup Monday at first base and will see lots of time there against left-handed pitchers.

“I’m not going to freak out over five, six, 10 at-bats,” Blanks said. “I’ve been playing long enough to understand that it’s not always great to put the utmost emphasis on results immediately. I haven’t seen most of these pitchers and I haven’t faced a lot of these teams so it’s kind of first time around for me, too. I’m Just trying to get my feet firmly planted and going from there.“
