SEATTLE – Oakland A’s left fielder Yoenis Cespedes left Friday’s game in the bottom of the fourth inning with right shoulder soreness.
Cespedes was making his first start in left field since Sept. 13 because of tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. He grounded out to second to lead off the top of the fourth and then was replaced by Seth Smith in left field to begin the bottom of the fourth.
Cespedes had been relegated to DH duty the past two weeks, and A’s manager Bob Melvin talked before the game about the importance of getting Cespees back in left field because “he gets in the flow of the game offensively and defensively.”
