Colon tests positive, suspended 50 games

A's starting pitcher Bartolo Colon failed an MLB drug test and is subject to a 50-game suspension, the team confirmed Wednesday.

The A's released the following statement after learning of the suspension, which is active immediately:
"The Oakland Athletics are disappointed to learn of todays suspension of pitcher Bartolo Coln. The organization fully supports Major League Baseballs Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing substances from our game. Per the Basic Agreement, the As will have no further comment.
Colon issued a statement of his own, accepting his suspension:
"I apologize to the fans, to my teammates and to the Oakland A's. I accept responsibility for my actions and I will serve my suspension as required by the Joint Drug Program."Colon, 39, signed a one-year, 2 million contract with the A's this offseason.

The 2005 Cy Young Award winner was enjoying a career resurrection after earning 10 wins in 24 starts with an ERA of 3.43.
