It appears George Michael won’t be visiting the Oakland Coliseum this season.

A’s officials reached out to Michael -– the pop star whose “Careless Whisper” has famously become Josh Reddick’s walk-up song –- about making an appearance at an A’s game, but they were told that Michael isn’t scheduled to be in the United States during this season.

Reddick began using “Careless Whisper" -- the saxophone-tinged 80’s ballad recorded by Michael’s band Wham! -- on the last homestand, and it’s become a national story for its sheer quirkiness as a walk-up selection.

In past seasons, the A’s have integrated other pop culture figures into their game-day activities when there’s been a connection. Two seasons ago, when the “Bernie Lean” dance was all the rage in A’s land, the team invited actor Terry Kiser -– who starred in the “Weekend at Bernie’s” movies –- to take part in pre-game festivities for one game.
