The A's ensured one of their cornerstone pieces will stick around longer, signing center fielder Coco Crisp to a two-year extension Friday with a vesting option for 2017.

Financial terms weren't immediately available, but extending the switch-hitting lead off man seemed a possibility even after Oakland exercised his $7.5 million option for this season in October.

Crisp, 34, beginning his fifth season with the A's, expressed a desire for a multi-year deal. He's been a spark plug behind the A's back-to-back division titles, rattling off hot streaks with the bat that seem to get the entire offense cranking.

Last season Crisp slugged a career-high 22 homers and produced the A's first 20-20 season since Ruben Sierra did it in 1993.

He also enters this season with a 138-game errorless streak, fifth-longest of any Oakland outfielder.
