A’s catcher John Jaso is battling a bout of back tightness and is likely to miss the rest of this weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jaso was scratched from Friday’s lineup at designated hitter, and manager Bob Melvin told reporters Jaso likely will rest Saturday and Sunday with the hopes that he might be ready for Monday’s series opener against Detroit at the Coliseum.

Jaso, hitting .284 with four home runs and 12 RBI overall, is batting .351 over his past 17 games. Derek Norris is catching and batting second Saturday against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Yoenis Cespedes gets the start at designated hitter for a day with Craig Gentry in left field.
