OAKLAND -- John Jaso is back in the A's starting lineup for the first time since June 20. The A's catcher is glad to be back after missing nine potential starts and doesn't think too fondly off the Rangers' infield.
Jaso suffered an abrasion on his left palm/wrist while sliding into second base in Texas, and said it's been giving him pain whenever he makes contact.
"That dirt is like concrete," he said Wednesday.
"He's ready," manager Bob Melvin said. "He hit quite a bit yesterday, and catching hasn't been the issue."
Coco Crisp is back in center field after he served as the designated hitter in Tuesday's 8-7 win following back spasms that forced him out of Sunday's contest. Seth Smith is the DH for Game 2, batting second.
Brandon Moss returns to face right-handed Cubs starter Matt Garza after a day off against a lefty on Tuesday, slotted fifth in the lineup.
