Major League Baseball announced Monday that Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager will replace Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays on the American League active roster for the 85th All-Star Game.

Encarnacion (.277, 26 HR, 70 RBI, .368 OBP, .591 SLG), an American League All-Star for the second consecutive year, was placed on the disabled list Monday with a right quadriceps strain.

The left-handed-hitting Seager, 26, will make his Midsummer Classic debut in his fourth Major League season.

On the year, the University of North Carolina product is batting .274 with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 21 doubles and a .483 slugging percentage. Seager will join Mariners teammates Felix Hernandez and fellow infielder Robinson Cano on the A.L. squad.
