OAKLAND -- The A's recalled Dan Straily from Triple-A Thursday morning, sending down third catcher Stephen Vogt, as expected.

A's manager Bob Melvin announced that Straily would get the start Wednesday, when the team decided the wise course of action with Jarrod Parker's ailing hamstring was additional rest. Parker will pitch Saturday in Kansas City.

Straily, 24, entered the season as the A's fifth starter, but he's made just 12 starts, splitting time with Triple-A when the schedule did not require him. He is 4-2 with a 5.00 ERA in 12 major league starts and 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA in four Triple-A starts this year.

"He's done enough to be that guy," Melvin said Wednesday.

Straily will oppose Cubs left-handed pitcher Travis Wood (5-6, 2.85 ERA) in the Fourth of July matinee.

Vogt, 28, was recalled June 25 and started four games for the A's. The catcher snapped a career-opening 0-for-32 streak with a solo home run on Friday against the Cardinals.
