Programming note: A’s-Mets coverage starts today at 3:30 p.m. with A’s Pregame Live on Comcast SportsNet California
The A’s activated right fielder Josh Reddick from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, and first baseman Kyle Blanks joined the DL to make room for him.
Blanks has been bothered by a strained left calf and exited Sunday’s game because of it. His absence means Brandon Moss likely will see the majority of time at first base, with Alberto Callaspo perhaps playing there some against left-handers.
Reddick, who has been out since June 1 with a hyperextended right knee, went 7-for-16 with three doubles in a four-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento. He enjoyed a four-hit game on Saturday.
Now the question is whether he returns to regular duty in right field. Catcher Stephen Vogt, who hits left-handed as does Reddick, has been contributing with the bat and holding his own defensively in recent games in right field. But the A’s also value Reddick’s Gold Glove caliber defense in right.
