Grant Green, the A's top pick in the 2009 first-year player draft, will join Oakland in Pittsburgh for the start of a three-game interleague series Monday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle and MLB.com.

Green, 25, was selected No. 13 overall out of USC and is currently batting .318 with 11 home runs, 49 RBI, 25 doubles and a .374 on-base percentage in 81 games at triple-A Sacramento. He was named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Week on July 1.

While his offense has never really been questioned, his defense has raised questions. Apparently, Green has provided enough answers of late playing primarily at second base for the River Cats.

Promoting Green now gives the first-place A's a chance to evaluate him at the major league level before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

A seemingly likely corresponding roster move for the A's would be to designate for assignment infielder Adam Rosales, who is out of options and in the middle of a 3-for-31 slump with 10 strikeouts while batting .200 for the season. A fielding error at shortstop Saturday led to Kansas City's game-winning run in the A's 4-3 loss that day.

According to a Tweet from Green's high school baseball team in Anaheim Hills, the Canyon High Comanches, he will play against the Pirates: "Congratulations to Grant Green who just got called up and will start at 2nd base for Oakland tomorrow night…Grant Green is the 7th player in Canyon Baseball history to play in Major League Baseball!"
