San Jose's antitrust lawsuit turned down, ‘no impact' on A's

The US Supreme Court has declined to hear the city of San Jose's antitrust lawsuit against Major League Baseball.

That was viewed as the city's final remaining legal effort to try to bring the A's to San Jose. The Giants currently hold territorial rights to Santa Clara County and do not want the A's to move to the South Bay.

In a statement, A's co-owner Lew Wolff said the Supreme Court's decision does not affect his team's search for a new ballpark: “Today, the United States Supreme Court formally declined to consider the City of San Jose’s challenge to Major League Baseball’s longstanding antitrust exemption. The Court’s decision, while significant, has no impact on our intense and unwavering focus on solving our ballpark issue and providing A’s fans the first class experience they deserve.”

The team's primary focus for some time now has been trying to build a new venue in Oakland, and Wolff likes the current Coliseum site as the best option.

The A's were never a participant in the city of San Jose's lawsuit.
