The A's sent minor league catcher David Freitas to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday as the player to be named later to complete last week's trade for closer Jim Johnson.

The A's originally shipped second baseman Jemile Weeks to Baltimore for Johnson, last year's American League saves leader who will take over as Oakland's closer. Frietas, 24, hit .231 with seven homers and 30 RBI split between Double-A and Triple-A in 2013. Frietas was acquired from Washington in August 2012 for catcher Kurt Suzuki.

Also Thursday, the A's outrighted pitcher Andrew Werner to Triple-A. He was designated for assignment last week.
