Successful surgery for A's Sizemore

A's third baseman Scott Sizemore underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to repair the torn ACL in his left knee, the team announced in a press release.

The surgery was performed by Arizona Sports Medicine Center's Dr. Douglas Freedberg in Scottsdale. Sizemore is expected to begin a rehab program in the next week and be ready for spring training next year.

Sizemore, who suffered the injury during the team's first full-squad workout on Feb. 27, is expected to miss the entire 2012 season. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list March 3, making room for the arrival of Yoenis Cespedes.

Sizemore, 27, hit .249 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 93 games for the A's last year.
