The A's have reinstated shortstop Cliff Pennington from the 15-day disabled list and optioned left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa to Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced Tuesday afternoon.

Pennington was placed on the disabled list July 20 with left elbow tendinitis.

Prior to his stint on the DL, he was batting .197 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 82 games.

He also had the lowest slugging percentage in the majors (.282) and the second lowest batting average (.197) and on-base percentage (.259).

Pennington began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento over the weekend, and in three starts he went 5-for-11 with three walks.

Figueroa was recalled from Sacramento on Sunday and appeared in two games, tossing three scoreless innings. It was his fourth stint with the As this year and he has a 1.20 ERA and .170 opponents batting average in 11 games overall.

However, he has issued 11 walks in 15.0 innings.
