What carries over to next A's stadium?

I was lucky enough to spend two days of this holiday weekend, not as a broadcaster, but as a spectator at the Coliseum to watch baseball. Instead of bashing the antiquated venue that played host to my first game ever, I have decided to figure out some of its qualities which should be carried on to a new stadium experience for the A's. Here's what should "stay": Dot Racing:
This was the original video entertainment segment, well before "Kiss Cam", or "The Hat Game". And although the traditional colors Red, White and Blue were recently upgraded to Green, Gold and White... there's no way to replace the simple amusement of three circles competing on Diamondvision.Bassy Sound System:
While the Coliseum may lack impressive acoustics, its current speaker cluster finds a way to make the low notes rattle your seat. In subconscious ways, this must have an intimidation factor to opponents, and for that reason alone should carry on.Actual Bullpens Down The Line:
New ballparks either have no room for relief-pitcher seating down the line, because modern dugouts are 2 rows deep. Or the new-age parks place the pens beyond the outfield fence. I'm for keeping it old-school... put both bullpen seating and mounds down the line in foul territory... lets keep things interesting!Gold Dugout Roofs:
Whether it's baseball cards, posters or the television side-shot of a batter in the box, the Coliseum has been instantly recognizable for the gold dugout roof with a green trim. By no means does it match the "facade factor" of Yankee Stadium(s), but it has the same effect.Spots For Signage:
Nobody argues that "Mount Davis" made the Coliseum a better baseball experience, but its elevated bleacher seating has offered A's fans the venue to better showcase their homemade signs just above the outfield fence. This was similar in the stadium's "old" configuration, and should continue into the next home. Those Stairs To Nowhere:
In 31 years, I have seen a hundred baseballs hit out there... but have never seen the stairs in leftright field used by spectators. I realize they are there for the football configuration, as an emergency escape route for the portable seating. Yes, in normal operations, they are pointless. But for whatever reason, the new facility should include stairs... even if they do not serve a mandatory purpose.Others Up For Consideration:
- Original "Colisuem Orange" seats (Why not?)
- Bleachers in both Left and Right Field (Their fans have unique identities)
- A single row in the top of the 3rd deck that is tarped (A tribute to the Coliseum's final years)What traditions do you think should continue with a new stadium for the A's? Log in below and add your comments.
