Detectives expect to wrap up Sandoval investigation soon

SAN FRANCISCODetectives in the Santa Cruz County Sheriffsoffice expect to wrap up their investigation of Giants third baseman Pablo Sandovalby the end of the week, a spokesperson for the department said Monday.

Detectives are still awaiting forensic tests results beforethey would make a recommendation to the district attorneys office on whetherto file charges in connection with an alleged sexual assault June 1 at theSeascape Beach Resort.

It is a very thorough investigation, Deputy April Skallandsaid.

The woman who filed the complaint is a 21-year-old who metSandoval, his brother and agent at a bar in downtown Santa Cruz, thenaccompanied the group to the resort.

The woman submitted forensic evidence at a local hospital,officials said. Sandovals attorney, Eric Geffon, called their interaction mutualand consensual.

Geffon said he continues to cooperate with theinvestigation. Detectives have not requested any follow-up interviews withSandoval after questioning him June 1, Geffon said.

At the time of the incident, Sandoval was on the disabledlist while rehabbing from left hand surgery. The Giants activated him June 9and he is hitting .275 without a home run in 14 games.
