Huff returns to DL, Giants recall Pill

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants placed first baseman Aubrey Huff on the disabled list for the third time this season Tuesday and recalled infielder Brett Pill from Triple-A Fresno.

Pill arrived at AT&T Park before tonight's game with the Mets and is available. He was sent back to Triple-A in early June after batting just .215 with 18 RBIs in 36 games with the Giants.

Huff re-injured his right knee while running out a ground ball in the sixth inning Monday night. He was replaced by Matt Cain as a pinch-runner. Huff is batting .148 with one homer and six RBIs in 2012.

Pence is expected arrive at 8 p.m. so the Giants will be a man short at first pitch. Pence has been issued uniform No. 2, last worn by utility infielder Emmanuel Burriss.

Huff was removed from the 15-day DL on Saturday. He has appeared in just 36 games this season due to injury and a stint on the DL due to anxiety disorder.
