Posey deemed ready for back-to-back duty behind plate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Buster Posey caught a spring-high seven innings on Monday, and when he returned to the dugout, manager Bruce Bochy had one question for him.

"How do you feel about catching tomorrow?"

Posey said he was up for it. That's exactly what Bochy wanted to hear, since Tim Lincecum will be on the mound against the Los Angeles Angels -- and the Giants' projected opening-day battery still hasn't teamed together this spring.

"He needs to catch Timmy for opening day," Bochy said. "So it's important. ... I talked to him and he felt fine."

Posey continues to look as good as the Giants could expect given the severity of last season's left ankle injury. He couldn't block one of Jeremy Affeldt's pitches in the dirt but made an easy team with Ryan Vogelsong during the right-hander's Cactus League debut.

It's easy to forget, but Vogelsong and Posey worked together in just three of the first-time All-Star's 28 starts last season.

"It felt good to catch the majority of the game today," Posey wrote on his Twitter account. "Weve made a lot of progress as a team this month ... and Im looking forward to finishing strong as we head into the season."
