The Giants and outfielder Melky Cabrera have agreed to pick up contract talks after this season, according to a report from John Heyman of CBS Sports:
The Giants are believed to have suggested a three-year deal along the lines of Carlos Quentin's new 27-million, three-year contract, though no official offer was made. Talks will resume after the year.
Cabrera, who turns 28 on Saturday, is having a career year for the Giants. He's hitting .353 with 11 homers and leads all of baseball with 152 hits.
