Schierholtz scratched from lineup

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Nate Schierholtz and "late scratch" are terms that Giants manager Bruce Bochy uses in the same sentence more than he prefers.

Bochy had to use it again Tuesday morning.

After writing what could be a version of the Giants' opening-day lineup, Bochy had to replace Schierholtz with right fielder Gregor Blanco. Bochy described Schierholtz's injury as a tight flexor extensor muscle in his right (throwing) forearm.

Schierholtz already missed a little time last week with a sore hip. He's still considered the starting right fielder, but his history of nagging injuries is one of the reasons that non-roster outfielder Gregor Blanco is considered a lock to make the club. Blanco is pushing Angel Pagan and Schierholtz for a larger role, too.

In other lineup news, it looks as if Ryan Theriot will get the first shot to replace Freddy Sanchez at second base. Sanchez isn't taking infield practice today -- another clue that he'll start the season on the disabled list.

Finally, Ryan Vogelsong is about to face hitters on a back field. Check back for an update on that.

REWIND: Vogelsong tests back with 45-pitch bullpen session

Here's the rest of the lineup, which will face Arizona prospect Trevor Bauer.

CF Angel Pagan
LF Melky Cabrera
3B Pablo Sandoval
C Buster Posey
1B Aubrey Huff
RF Gregor Blanco
2B Ryan Theriot
SS Brandon Crawford
P Barry Zito

Can't wait to see Bauer pitch. The former UCLA star and No.3 overall pick warms up by throwing from foul pole to foul pole. He's been called a Lincecum clone.
