Lee leads Warriors past Cavs as Monta struggles

David Lee kept up his stretch of good basketball, and the Warriors subs contributed for the second consecutive game. The victory pushed the Warriors record to 5-8, and they conclude their four-game road trip with a game Wednesday against New Jersey.Warriors 105, Cavaliers 95Star of the game: David Lee had 13 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors held off Cleveland for their second consecutive road win. It was the fifth consecutive game Lee has scored 20 or more points in a game, the only time hes done that as a Warrior.Key stretch: The Warriors defense helped key this victory by holding the Cavaliers to just 16 points in the fourth quarter and forcing 25 turnovers for the game.Ellis struggles: For the second consecutive game, Warriors shooting guard Monta Ellis struggled in the first halfbut on Tuesday it lasted for the full 48 minutes.Ellis had just five points in the first half of Sundays victory over the Detroit Pistons, and he had trouble getting anything to go down in the first two quarters against Cleveland.Ellis went just 2-for-9 from the floor through 24 minutes and had nine points at the half. He finished with just 10 points and late in the fourth quarter got hit by an Anderson Varejao elbow and had to leave the game.Warriors coach Mark Jackson said afterwards that X-rays on Ellis nose were negative.It was just a bad shooting night for me, said Ellis, who finished 2-for-12 from the floor. The whole team shot bad. But we did it on the defensive end. I was able to get what I wanted, but the (shots) werent falling.Second unit: The Warriors substitutes are starting develop some chemistry and a little bit of an identity. Nate Robinson brings much of the offensive spark and Brandon Rush, Dominic McGuire and Ekpe Udoh bring the defense.Robinson had 17 points and 10 assists, and the Warriors bench scored a total of 50 points. Rookie Klay Thompson had perhaps his best game as a pro, scoring 14 points and making all four of his 3-point attempts.Brandon Rush also chipped in with 14 points. For the game, the Warriors subs shot 9-for-12 from beyond the arc.I have to hold guys responsible if theyre not getting it done, Jackson said. We gave up 21 points in the first part of the third quarter, and then we shut them down. They finished with 29 (points) in the third quarter, and 21 were on our starters, and thats unacceptable.I give my guys credit. Ive been on teams where the starters would have been upset, saying different things, and the starters came back and sealed the deal. It was just a great team effort.Curry waits: Warriors point guard Stephen Curry had hoped to return for Tuesdays game but decided against it. Curry likely wont be in the lineup when the Warriors play New Jersey on Wednesday.Said Warriors coach Mark Jackson before the game: Still getting closer and closer. Just trying to make the best decision and not rush it, which is important. We want him for the long haul.If Curry misses the game against the Nets, he will have missed nine games because of the ankle. Last season, Curry missed eight games because of the ankle.Thats what the good teams do, Jackson said. In spite of adversity they find a way to get it done. When you compete and defend, you will win your fair share of games in this league.
